Myles Garrett Highest Paid Defender
The Cleveland Browns have made Myles Garrett highest paid defender in the NFL. Below, updated Browns Super Bowl online betting odds for Super Bowl 2021.
The Cleveland Browns and pass rusher Myles Garrett have come to terms on a five-year extension worth $125 million.
According to reports, the deal, which contains $100 million in total guarantees, is worth a total of $144 million over seven years, making Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
The extension will keep the 2017 No. 1 overall pick under contract in Cleveland through the 2026 season. The 24-year-old defensive end entered the offseason with two years left on his rookie contract after the Browns picked up his fifth-year option.
“In 2017, the Cleveland Browns bet on me,” Garrett said in a statement released through the team. “This city quickly became my home and these people quickly became my family. I’m eternally grateful for this opportunity, the support of my friends and family, the organization, my teammates, the fans — I could go on forever, but even that wouldn’t be enough time to express my gratitude. I’ll just say this: Keep betting on me, Cleveland, because I won’t let you down. Now, let’s get to work.”

Garrett has been one of the NFL’s most dominant pass-rushers since he entered the league, ranking fourth in the league in sacks per game (0.82) over three seasons.
He had 10 sacks in 10 games last season. But he missed the final six games of the season after he was suspended for hitting Mason Rudolph with the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback’s own helmet during a skirmish at the end of their game on Nov. 14. The NFL reinstated Garrett in February.

Now that he is the highest-paid defender in the league, Garrett has his sights on the Defensive Player of the Year award and a playoff berth.
“I was in the [defensive] player of the year conversation [last year],” Garrett said. “I don’t want to make it a conversation anymore. This next year, I want to ball out, win that award … take my team to the playoffs. … I want to lead Cleveland to the promised land.”
