Philadelphia Eagles News

The Philadelphia Eagles don’t have a lot of experience at the quarterback position. This, after allowing backup quarterback Nick Foles to leave as a free agent. Foles, led the team to their first Super Bowl.

What will this mean for Philadelphia Eagles Superbowl 2020 odds? Foles quickly signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Replacing former quarterback Blake Bortles. This left the Eagles with Carson Wentz and Nate Sudfeld as the only quarterbacks on the roster.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, Wentz is still recovering from his season-ending injury. Also, he told reporters last month that he was behind schedule on his rehab. Even though the team expects him to be ready for training camp. Wentz has been unable to finish the last two seasons, so the team decided to add some depth through the draft. Selecting Northwestern’s Clayton Thorson in the fifth round of the draft.

With Sudfeld having thrown 25 passes in his career and Thorson being a rookie, the Eagles were expected to bring in another veteran to compete for the backup job. This is where Cody Kessler enters.

According to ESPN, the Eagles have their sights on former Jaguars backup Cody Kessler, who has appeared in 17 games and thrown for 2,215 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions while playing for the Jaguars and Cleveland Browns, who selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

However, he has a 2-10 record in 12 career starts, which might have some Eagles fans wondering if he can cut it as a starter if Wentz goes down with an injury.

Even though Kessler hasn’t put up the type of numbers that Foles did, he has put up some respectable numbers playing for two of the worst franchises in the league. With the Eagles having more depth than the Browns or Jaguars did when Kessler was on the team, the Eagles think he can step up to the plate if needed.
